Training proposal for traditional midwives in the department of Chocó, Colombia.

The purpose of this experience was to strengthen the technical capacities of traditional midwives in the rural area of the municipality of Quibdó (Chocó), through the development of two components: 1) elaboration of a qualitative exploratory study to identify and understand the practices and beliefs of traditional midwives in the area regarding maternal health care and newborn care; and 2) development and validation of a training proposal appropriate to the context of the two predominant ethnic groups in the area, which responds to the knowledge needs of these community health workers.
