Training for traditional midwives in the department of Chocó, Colombia

What is the project about?

At Sinergias we promote and support solutions in harmony with the communities. The purpose of this experience was to strengthen the technical capacities of traditional midwives in the rural area of the municipality of Quibdó (Chocó).

What did we do?

We conducted a qualitative study in order to identify and understand the practices and beliefs of traditional midwives in the area regarding maternal health care and newborn care. We developed and validated a training proposal for community health agents, appropriate to the context of the predominant ethnic groups in the area.
