Salvador Fernández Martínez, community leader of the Cubeo indigenous people of the Macaquiño community, located on the Vaupés River, accompanied Sinergias throughout the process of developing the Intercultural Health Model project in 18 communities in the department.
He is a family man, leader and several times captain of his community. He is also an artisan, fisherman and catechist. Salvador recognizes the changes that occurred with the intervention of Sinergias in these communities. However, he asks for the project to continue because since it ended the health situation in the department has not improved.
The award for Innovation in Health, given to Sinergias by GSK and Save The Children, will serve as a basis to resume our work with Vaupés and improve access to health for the entire community, especially children and women.
"I would like Sinergias to go back to work much better than before, that is our hope. The greatest need of the community is health care for different diseases", Salvador Fernández Martínez.
