Sinergias contributes to improving local government governance

At Sinergias we are committed to the health of Colombians. For us, the strengthening of public policies, of the relationships between the actors involved and of the technical and administrative capacities in this sector are the best way to promote the social development of the country.

Our organization focuses on strengthening the State's response to meet the health demands of citizens, especially in the most vulnerable communities of the country (those in which access to health services is hindered by culture, budget or geographical conditions). To this end, we articulate knowledge and particular experiences and we elaborate, implement and evaluate strategies to strengthen local health capacities, hand in hand with the communities.

Differential approach

In a country with 102 indigenous peoples and 10.6% of the total Afro-descendant population, we protect the communities along with their cultural and linguistic diversity and we respect and take into account the specific needs of these communities according to their worldviews. For this reason, in the Colombian Amazon, the Pacific Coast and some border areas, we have cooperated with indigenous, Afro-Colombian or displaced populations in the design and implementation of their self-management programs.

With our work we strengthen the public management of state institutions, strengthening strategic alliances that contribute to improving the quality of life of children, adolescents, women and men, adults and the elderly.

At Sinergias we are convinced that coupling the differential approach to the design, implementation and evaluation of public policies is to prepare state institutions to face the needs and complexities presented by diversity. In addition, our work seeks to ensure that the State articulates efforts with other sectors (foundations, communities, social organizations), breaking power hierarchies and contributing to networking.

Institutional and community capacity building

Our areas of action focus on public health and social development. Regarding health services, we work in primary health care, maternal and child health, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, violence and peace. All these components help state institutions (such as local mayors' offices, governors' offices, health and education departments and public hospitals, among others) to strengthen their management hand in hand with us. To this end, we work in the sensitization and training of the actors involved, the improvement of quality in the provision of services and the adaptation of intercultural models, (each project has different strategies according to the contexts and specific needs in which they are developed).

From our organization we are working to contribute to the social development of the communities, through the execution of productive processes, food security and sovereignty, education for diversity and healthy environments.
