Project for the improvement of health and greater protection against priority diseases for women, children, adolescents and excluded populations in vulnerable situations in the department of Vaupés.


The main objective of this project, which was developed in three intermittent phases, was to carry out actions to improve the health care of the population living in the communities of Rio Abajo and Carretera in the suburban area of Mitú, through the strengthening of local capacities and the development of inputs for the construction of a model based on Primary Health Care (PHC) with a differential approach. The main actions developed within the framework of the project included: 1) training of 65 nursing assistants and health promoters from all over the department; 2) habilitation of 5 health care posts adapted by the communities themselves and equipped by the project with the hiring of 5 nursing assistants chosen by the communities and trained by Sinergias; 3) The program provides accompaniment to these community health agents by a team of health and social professionals to strengthen their technical capacities to provide maternal and child health services; 4) periodic home visits to all 340 families in the area to characterize risk factors and generate family plans for improvement; 5) diagnosis of the nutritional situation of children under five years of age with deworming and micronutrient supplementation for all infants in the area; 6) participatory workshops on key health practices; 7) recruitment and referral of pregnant women for medical attention at the local hospital; 8) collection of information to characterize suicidal behavior in the population of the area; 9) collection of information to characterize suicidal behavior in the population of the area; 10) collection of information to characterize suicidal behavior in the population of the area; 11) collection and referral of information to the local hospital for medical attention; 12) collection of information to characterize suicidal behavior in the population of the area; 6) conducting participatory workshops on key practices for health; 7) recruitment and referral of pregnant women for medical care at the local hospital; 8) collection of information for the characterization of suicidal behavior in indigenous populations, with retrospective epidemiological analysis of the suicide event in the department of Vaupés between 2008-2011.
