Prevention of mother-to-child transmission of HIV: search and follow-up of children and mothers with HIV in 20 departments.


The project followed up on girls, boys and mothers served by the national strategy for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, which included: 1) active search for mothers diagnosed with HIV infection who were registered in the database of the strategy for elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV, whose exposed children lacked follow-up; 2) survey of mothers and caregivers in 20 departments to identify the causes for which HIV-exposed children did not complete their follow-up in the strategy for elimination of mother-to-child transmission (MTCT) of HIV; and 3) development of an Inspection, Surveillance and Control (IVC) strategy aimed at Health Promoting Companies and Territorial Directorates with a focus on primary health care for the elimination of mother-to-child transmission of HIV.
