Prevention and control of six (6) neglected infectious diseases (NIDs) in Guainía and Vichada.

Within the framework of this project, actions aimed at the prevention and control of 6 infectious diseases were developed in line with the National Inter-programmatic Plan for the prevention, control and elimination of Neglected Infectious Diseases, Colombia, 2013-2017. Specific objectives for this project included: 1) achieve effective coverage in the mass administration of azithromycin and Albendazole in 162 communities in the department of Guainía; 2) develop health promotion and prevention activities for these diseases, with emphasis on the prioritized EIDs; 3) detect cases of trachomatous trichiasis through active search in 162 communities; 4) identify and treat the other prioritized ectoparasitosis (pediculosis, scabies, tungiasis, cutaneous larva migrans) and 5) develop and validate intercultural educational material in collaboration with the inhabitants of 8 communities for the prevention of the 6 DID.
