What is the project about?
This project called Mil días is a public health intervention with a systemic approach that has been developed since 2012 in 5 Colombian departments. It seeks to improve the technical, functional and organizational response capacity of health sector institutions responsible for the care of pregnant women and children in their first two years of life. We accompany the development, implementation and monitoring of quality improvement plans for these services and periodically provide feedback on the findings in order to make operational adjustments in the field.
What are we doing?
We provide accompaniment and technical assistance to key actors in the health sector. To this end, we propose a methodology that improves the quality of care and lasts 36 months distributed in three phases:
Phase 1: Focuses on the development of processes at the municipal level.
Phase 2: Focuses on strengthening maternal and child health care in institutions
Phase 3: Works on the progressive implementation of the strategy in other municipalities prioritized by the territorial health directorates. Here we present the findings after 2 years of implementation of the experience.
Mil Dias consists of three components:
Component 1: Elaboration and monitoring of municipal and departmental Improvement Plans.
Component 2: Indirect evaluation of the quality of services through the review of medical records.
Component 3: Training, technical assistance, accompaniment and feedback.
