Improving prenatal, childbirth and postpartum care to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality in Cauca.

This project seeks to effectively integrate maternal and neonatal health and family planning services using the following strategies: 1) a health quality improvement program with a systemic approach based on local needs, involving all actors in the health system at the municipal and departmental levels; 2) on-site accompaniment with permanent technical assistance; 3) development of information technologies for health professionals, mothers and caregivers; 4) periodic monitoring and evaluation, with generation of adjustments in the process; and 5) promotion of women's participation to improve the quality of health services and achieve sustainability in the results. The main objective is to directly benefit women who give birth in the prioritized institutions and their newborns, as well as women with childbearing potential in 16 of the most vulnerable municipalities of Cauca, ensuring prompt and comprehensive care provided by trained professionals, during the stages of pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum, and newborn; and thus contribute to the reduction of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality in Colombia.
