Improved coverage of prevention, control and elimination of infectious diseases

Improved coverage of prevention, control and elimination of five neglected infectious diseases in the communities of Rio Abajo and Carretera in the suburban area of Mitú, Vaupés.

This project aimed to prevent and control 5 neglected infectious diseases (trachoma, geohelminthiasis, tungiasis, pediculosis and scabies) of high prevalence in the area, through the massive administration of medicines and the implementation of health promotion actions focused on these 5 diseases. Among the actions implemented by this project were: the training of community health agents (nursing assistants and health promoters) for the prevention and control of the 5 neglected diseases, massive administration of medicines to the eligible population in 18 communities of Rio Abajo and Carretera in the suburban area of Mitú; development of health promotion activities in the 18 communities (community workshops and home visits) and the implementation of a community health surveillance system with emphasis on the 5 prioritized diseases.
