Good news! Sinergias will continue in the department of Cauca during 2016

• In a department that has been severely affected by the Colombian armed conflict, the organization will carry out actions to reduce maternal and perinatal mortality, where 15 newborns die per 1,000 live births.

• The strategy will continue to improve local health capacities and the quality of maternal and child care services in 16 municipalities in Cauca. With this project, we are benefiting 450,000 women of childbearing age and 16,000 newborns in this territory.

Reducing maternal and perinatal mortality and improving the health and good practices of pregnant women and newborn care has been a global priority since the creation of the Millennium Development Goals. Colombia has significant inequalities in these areas and in their promotion, factors that make achieving the MDGs a difficult task.

At Sinergias, we believe that health is a path to development, which is why we have created a program to improve the quality of this service with a systemic approach based on local needs, involving all stakeholders in the care system at the municipal and departmental levels. Some of our strategies are:

• Promote women's participation to improve the quality of healthcare and services.

• Provide ongoing technical assistance in the field.

• Develop information technologies for healthcare professionals, mothers, and caregivers.

• Periodically monitor project evaluation processes.

Our goal is that by the end of the project, 75% of prenatal care records will meet quality criteria: protein monitoring, blood pressure control, and a comprehensive bio-psychosocial risk scale are some of the services to be strengthened (these are provided by the health system as a legal obligation).

Sinergias continues to coordinate multisectoral efforts and knowledge to promote change with respect for local culture.
