In partnership with the University of Cauca and the Cauca Departmental Health Secretariat, we developed two training programs: a 180-hour blended (virtual and face-to-face) diploma course on governance for improving maternal and perinatal care in ethnically diverse areas, and a 40-hour virtual course on the Comprehensive Maternal and Perinatal Health Care Pathway (RIAMP). These training courses, with an intercultural and gender focus, were designed to strengthen the capacities of health personnel responsible for managing the RIAMP in the Cauca region.
The Center for Continuing, Open, and Virtual Education (CECAV) at the University of Cauca guaranteed academic recognition and institutional support. The courses included five modules on regulations, information management, intercultural methodologies, monitoring, and evaluation. We graduated 69 participants from 23 municipalities. As part of this process, we also designed and adjusted a series of tools that facilitate RIAMP management and timely decision-making in the individual and collective monitoring of the population.
We also conducted additional workshops on the Pacific Coast, where we had the privilege of training traditional midwives and health professionals in remote areas. In these sessions, led with dedication by a team consisting of a pediatrician, an obstetrician-gynecologist, and two nurses, we trained 37 midwives, community agents, technicians, and health professionals.
