Construction of a model with a differential ethnic/racial and intercultural approach for mental health and psychoactive substances (PAS) interventions for indigenous groups or peoples.

The main objective of this project was to harmonize the efforts previously made by different institutions for the construction of a proposal for a Mental Health Care Model for indigenous ethnic groups. In this sense, a bibliographic review of the products developed by the Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization in the lines of Mental Health and health for indigenous ethnic groups and peoples was carried out, in addition to the search and analysis of complementary information not previously considered. Based on this review, a proposal was made for a model of care with a differential approach for mental health interventions and PAS consumption for indigenous groups or peoples, which, due to the background of the context, emphasized suicidal behavior. The model with a differential approach was socialized with the territorial entities and the organizations of indigenous groups and peoples. It establishes four main strategies: 1) promotion of the autonomy processes of the organizations of ethnic groups and peoples; 2) strengthening of the processes of construction of meaning and significance in the communities of indigenous ethnic groups and peoples; 3) generation of protective resources at the family level; and 4) provision of timely mental health care for members of indigenous ethnic groups and peoples.
