Salvador Fernández Martínez, community leader of the Cubeo indigenous people in the community of Macaquiño, located on the Vaupés River, accompanied Sinergias throughout the development process of the Intercultural Health Model project in 18 communities in the department.
He is a father, leader, and has served as captain of his community on several occasions. He is also a craftsman, fisherman, and catechist. Salvador recognizes the changes that have taken place in these communities thanks to Sinergias' intervention. However, he asks that the project continue, as the health situation in the department has not improved since it ended.
The Health Innovation Award, given to Sinergias by GSK and Save the Children, will serve as a basis for resuming our work with Vaupés and improving access to health care for the entire community, especially children and women.
“I would like Sinergias to return to working much better than before; that is our hope. The community's greatest need is healthcare for different diseases,” Salvador Fernández Martínez.
